Program Information
10 and Under Tennis using the QuickStart method is the USTA's kid-sized, age-appropriate format
for teaching kids ages three and up the "sport for a lifetime." Tennis has always taught kids
valuable character-building life skills like integrity, sportsmanship, dedication, determination,
and teamwork.
QuickStart has changed the teaching approach from traditional instruction to "play
to learn" with a competency progression, which helps kids experience success early on. Balls are
lower in compression; they bounce lower and don't move as fast so they are easier to hit.
This allows kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets are
sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. QuickStart adds FUN
fitness and conditioning activities that work on agility, balance, coordination, footwork and
reaction time. Kids have so much FUN with QuickStart that they don't even know they're learning,
and they're learning a lot.
QuickStart brings out the best in kids naturally. QuickStart allows
a child to engage fully in tennis and have some success more quickly than traditional tennis
lessons. The format will build skills and confidence levels before kids move on to traditional
tennis. It can be played on a modified tennis court, outdoors on the playground, or indoors in a
school room; as an after-school club or part of your physical education program.
